Girls Take Part in Barclays Game On – Go Lead Initiative
A group of our students recently took part in the exciting Barclays Game On – Go Lead campaign, part of The Football Association initiative designed to encourage more girls and young women to get involved in football.
The day was packed with engaging activities that helped develop leadership skills both on and off the pitch. The girls began by identifying the key skills and qualities needed to become effective leaders before working together to create a school action plan aimed at increasing female participation in football. Students then moved on to designing and leading football drills focused on high engagement and inclusion, ensuring that everyone could take part and enjoy the sport.
One of the highlights of the day was learning how to officiate football matches. The girls were taught the signals used by third officials as well as the hand signals referees use during games. They even had the opportunity to referee their own matches, putting their new knowledge and confidence into practice. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all, with the students showing great enthusiasm, teamwork, and leadership throughout. The girls will meet again in the near future to begin putting their plans into action, with the hope of encouraging even more females to take part in football across the school community.
