Reporting and Assessment
Assessment at Bolder
Assessment helps students, teachers and parents understand what has been learned securely, what needs further development and what the next steps should be.
At Bolder, assessment takes place in two ways:
Ongoing assessment
Teachers regularly check understanding through questioning, mini-whiteboards, retrieval activities, classwork, homework and short assessment tasks. This helps teachers identify misconceptions and adapt teaching.
Formal Assessment Points
Students complete formal assessments at key points during the year.
Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12
- AP1 – November
- AP2 – February
- AP3 – June
AP1 assesses learning from September to November. AP2 focuses on learning since AP1, while AP3 is cumulative and assesses learning across the academic year. Assessments will look different in different subjects because they are designed to assess the knowledge and skills that matter within each discipline.
Years 11 and 13
- November mock examinations
- February mock examinations
- Public examinations from May onwards
Mock examinations are used to identify strengths, gaps and priorities for revision and intervention before final examinations.
What happens after an assessment?
Teachers and departments analyse assessment information to identify strengths, misconceptions and patterns of underachievement.
This follows an:
Assess → Plan → Do → Review approach.
Students may receive:
- targeted feedback and Fix It activities
- reteaching of misconceptions
- additional practice or revision
- adapted teaching or increased challenge
- targeted intervention where needed
The impact of these actions is then reviewed through ongoing assessment and future Assessment Points.
Reporting Progress
Parents and carers receive regular information about students’ achievement, progress and Learning Habits.
For Years 7–9, reports include:
- Assessment Score
- Relative Performance
- Progress Indicator
For Years 10–13, reports include:
- Assessment Score
- Current Working Grade
- Target Grade
- Progress Indicator
A Current Working Grade reflects the standard demonstrated in an assessment and is not a prediction of the student’s final grade.
Learning Habits
Students also receive two Learning Habits grades:
- Classroom Learning Habits
- Homework & Independent Study
Both are graded:
- 1 – Consistently
- 2 – Usually
- 3 – Not Yet Consistently
These grades reflect the habits that support successful learning and Bolder's values of being Kind, Strong and Brave
