Being Bold
A Unique Programme at Bolder Academy
At Bolder Academy, we believe that education is about more than just academic achievement—it’s about developing confident, capable, and compassionate individuals. That’s why we offer ‘Being Bold’, a distinctive programme unique to our school, designed to support our students’ holistic development.
Delivered in a timetabled lesson every fortnight, Being Bold gives students dedicated time to build essential life skills, grow in confidence, develop their independence and prepare for life beyond the classroom. Students in Years 7 and 8 follow a carefully curated curriculum tailored to their age and stage, ensuring a rich and varied experience during their time at Bolder Academy.
Year 7
- iDEA Award – Students complete a series of online challenges designed to develop their digital, enterprise and employability skills. Along the way, they earn recognised badges and work towards achieving the iDEA Award.
- CREST Bronze Award – Students take part in engaging, hands-on STEM projects that encourage creativity, problem-solving, independent thinking and teamwork.
- Finance – Students develop essential financial literacy skills, including understanding money, budgeting, saving and spending wisely, helping them make informed financial decisions as they grow older.
- Mental First Aid – Students learn practical strategies for looking after their own mental wellbeing, recognising when they or others may need support, and understanding where and how to seek help.
Year 8
- Ethics – Students explore moral reasoning, values and a range of thought-provoking real-world issues. They are encouraged to consider different perspectives, develop their own viewpoints and communicate their ideas respectfully.
- First Give – Students participate in the award-winning First Give programme, which empowers young people to make a positive difference in their communities. Students learn about local social issues, research charities and develop their communication, teamwork and social action skills.
- Public Speaking – Students develop the confidence and skills needed to communicate effectively with an audience. Through planning, practising and delivering speeches, students learn how to articulate their ideas with clarity, confidence and impact.
Being Bold is more than a lesson—it’s a mindset. It empowers our students to face the future with resilience, empathy and ambition. At Bolder Academy, we’re not just preparing students for exams; we’re preparing them for life.
