At Bolder Academy teachers are Kind, Strong and Brave.

Kind teachers know their students well and create a positive climate for learning:

Kind teachers ensure:

  1. Bolder values are consistently modelled to foster positive relations and set high expectations for all students
  2. Entry and exit routines are consistent with whole school routines to ensure a calm and purposeful learning environment
  3. Whole school rewards and sanctions systems are used consistently to support strong learning habits
Strong teachers are expert practitioners and plan highly effective lessons:

Strong teachers ensure:

  1. The lesson objective and outcomes are made clear (how they fit within sequence/unit)
  2. The Bolder lesson format is used to plan and adapt lessons to meet the needs of all students (SEND/PP/EAL)
  3. Questioning is appropriately paced, purposeful and targeted to the abilities of the students
  4. Challenge tasks and support strategies are provided for each task to support the progress of all students
  5. More than one strategy for differentiation is used, e.g. task, group, outcome, resource, questioning, deployment of TAs
  6. Task instructions are always given clearly, both orally and in writing (on resource or power point)
  7. Clear timings set and communicated for every task
  8. Students are provided with regular opportunities to engage in guided and independent practice
  9. Understanding is checked regularly during every lesson using mini whiteboards, green pen self and peer assessment and questioning
  10. Plenaries are used to review progress against lesson objectives and learning outcomes
  11. High standards of literacy and oracy are consistently modelled and students are supported to use full sentences and sophisticated vocabulary when speaking and writing
  12. Books are monitored throughout the lesson to ensure book etiquette expectations are met by all students
Brave teachers are reflective practitioners who strive to consistently improve and develop:

Brave teachers:

  1. Regularly engage with pedagogical research to support their own continuous professional development
  2. Fully engage in collaboration to adapt and improve both their own practice and that of their colleagues
  3. Keep abreast of subject changes to ensure accurate, relevant and engaging subject knowledge delivered
