House System
Houses at Bolder Academy
At Bolder Academy, our house system is a cornerstone of school life, promoting unity, healthy competition, and shared values.
Every student and member of staff is allocated to one of our six houses, which also forms their tutor group. This creates a close-knit, supportive environment where students feel connected and valued every day.
Our houses are named after six inspirational figures who embody the Bolder values of Strong, Bold, and Kind. These remarkable individuals overcame adversity, challenged injustice, and made lasting contributions to the world. Their stories continue to inspire our students to be courageous, compassionate, and ambitious in all they do.
Named after Emmeline Pankhurst, a fearless leader of the British suffragette movement who fought boldly for women's right to vote. Her strength and determination remind us to stand up for equality and social justice.
Alan Turing was a mathematical genius whose work decoding enemy communications helped to end World War II. Despite facing discrimination, his resilience and intellect left a lasting legacy. He embodies bold thinking and strength in adversity.
Jesse Owens, a world-renowned athlete, broke Olympic records and racial barriers at the 1936 Berlin Games. His achievements in the face of prejudice are a powerful example of quiet strength and dignity.
Malala Yousafzai is a global advocate for girls’ education. Her courage in standing up to oppression and her ongoing work to ensure access to learning for all is truly inspiring. She reminds us:
“One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world.”
Frida Kahlo, the celebrated Mexican artist, used her creativity to explore identity and express personal pain. Despite lifelong health struggles, she remained boldly true to herself and continues to inspire with her authenticity and kindness.
Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize—and the only person to win in two scientific fields—was a trailblazer in physics and chemistry. Her strength, curiosity, and dedication to discovery continue to light the way for future innovators.
Students at Bolder Academy have a wide range of opportunities to contribute to their house and demonstrate our shared values. House points are awarded for both participation and achievement, encouraging students to take pride in their efforts and support one another.
From inter-house sporting events and subject-based competitions to acts of kindness and academic excellence, every contribution count’s. Points accumulate throughout the year and contribute to the prestigious House Shield.
Each house is led by a committed team of student and staff leaders:
- A Head of House (a Sixth Form student)
- A Senior House Captain
- A Junior House Captain
- Two Staff Heads of House
These leaders work together to build a strong sense of identity, belonging, and pride within each house.
Students also have occasions throughout the year to come together as a house—through regular house assemblies and a special birthday assembly celebrating their house namesake. These events reinforce the unique identity of each house and build a strong, respectful and spirited school culture.
At Bolder Academy, our house system is more than tradition—it’s a vibrant, values-driven community that unites us and helps every student become strong in character, bold in ambition, and kind in action.
