Our Curriculum

Learning at Bolder Academy

We believe in a bold future – one that champions passion, knowledge and innovation.

At Bolder Academy, our ambitious and inclusive curriculum develops the knowledge, confidence and resilience students need to succeed at school and beyond. It is rooted in the National Curriculum and enriched through opportunities that broaden students’ horizons.

The Bolder Way – Our Curriculum

Our curriculum supports students to:

  1. Achieve academic excellence through a well-sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum.
  2. Experience new opportunities that broaden horizons and develop cultural capital.
  3. Make a positive contribution to their community and society.

Learning builds on students’ starting points, with important knowledge and skills revisited over time. Literacy and academic vocabulary are developed across all subjects.

Teaching – The Bolder Way

Our consistent approach to teaching ensures every lesson is purposeful, engaging and challenging.

The Bolder Lesson follows a clear sequence:

Quiz It → Share It → Teach It → Do It → Check It

Our Big 5 expectations – Quiz It, Share It, Visual Support, Visual Challenge and Frequent Check Its – support our ambition for 100% of students, 100% engaged, 100% of the time.

Teachers use adaptive teaching to remove barriers while maintaining high expectations, ensuring all students can access and succeed within our ambitious curriculum.

Assessment and Feedback

Assessment is an integral part of learning. Teachers regularly check understanding, identify misconceptions and adapt teaching. Formal assessments help students understand their strengths and next steps, with feedback, reteaching and further practice used to support progress.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Students benefit from a wide range of extra-curricular, leadership and enrichment opportunities, supported by strong links with businesses, community groups and national organisations. We also promote reading for pleasure and academic success across the Academy.

Throughout Academy life, students are encouraged to live our values:

Be Kind. Be Strong. Be Brave.
