Students Attend TogetHER on the Pitch Rugby Initiative
A group of our Year 9 and 10 students recently visited The Stoop to take part in the inspiring TogetHER on the Pitch initiative, a programme focused on increasing female participation in rugby and encouraging more girls to get involved in the sport.
Throughout the day, the girls had the opportunity to compete in games against local schools, while also learning new rules and developing a variety of rugby skills and drills. The sessions were both engaging and enjoyable, helping students build confidence, teamwork, and resilience on the pitch. One of the highlights of the visit was an exclusive meet and greet with three players from the Harlequins Women squad. The players spoke openly with the students about the importance of resilience, staying true to yourself, and not simply following the crowd. They also shared their own success stories, inspiring the girls in the room with their journeys into professional sport.
Our students engaged brilliantly during the session, asking thoughtful and mature questions such as whether the players had ever experienced gender discrimination and how they dealt with it, as well as what day-to-day life looks like as a professional athlete. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience and even returned with signed memorabilia to remember the special day. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn from positive role models and further develop their passion for sport.
