PE & Extra-Curricular Update
Our extra-curricular programme has launched to a fantastic start, with brilliant engagement from Bolder students across the board!
Extra-curricular activities provide students with opportunities to build confidence, develop teamwork skills, discover new interests, and make new friends – all whilst developing skills beyond the classroom environment. There really is something for everyone.
Our clubs range from physical activities such as Girls’ Football, Trampoline and Climbing, to languages including German and Portuguese. We also offer exciting STEM and Robotics opportunities for students who enjoy creating, experimenting, and problem-solving.
We are always looking to broaden our extra- curricular offer and provide even more opportunities for our students. Coming soon, we are hoping to introduce a Golf Club through a developing partnership with our neighbours, WYKE Green.
With so many clubs on offer, there is always something new to try.
Girls Football
We have been delighted by the huge interest in Girls' Football this term, with an incredible number of students signing up to take part. It has been wonderful to see so many new faces joining the club and getting involved from the very first session.
The enthusiasm, commitment, and team spirit on display have been fantastic, making each session enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involved. With plenty of talent and determination on show, we are excited to continue developing our players and building on the success of last year.
We look forward to continuing our winning ways and having another successful season both on and off the pitch. Well done to all the girls who have joined so far, and we can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
Boys Football
The boys have been bringing energy, enthusiasm and determination to football training as they prepare for upcoming borough fixtures!
What They've Been Learning:
- Tactical thinking – understanding attacking and defensive roles
- New formations and team structures
- Communication and positioning across the pitch
- Working together as a team, not just individual players
Training has combined skill development with competitive challenges, all focused on teamwork, determination and a positive attitude.
Match Ready: With borough fixtures fast approaching, the boys are working hard to be match-ready. We can't wait to see them put everything into action - giving 100%, supporting teammates and representing the school with pride!
Year 8 Girls Netball Match
Our Year 8 girls' netball team put in a fantastic performance against Heathlands, despite a 9-2 defeat.
Every member of the team played brilliantly, showing great skill and determination throughout. Special congratulations go to our players of the match: Shayleen B and Amiya J, who both demonstrated exceptional performance on the court.
Well done to all of the girls – a fantastic team effort!
STEM and Robotics Club
Students explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on projects using Arduino microcontrollers and electronic components.
What Students Will Build:
- Traffic light control systems
- Automatic dustbin openers using sensors
- LED and buzzer circuits
- Motion and distance sensor projects
- Smart home automation activities
Through these projects, students develop programming, electronics, problem-solving, and engineering design skills whilst encouraging creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking. The club helps students understand how technology solves real- world problems.
Climbing Club
Climbing Club filled all spaces in record time! Students have shown tremendous courage and determination, mastering essential skills including knot-tying, harness fitting, and belaying techniques. Many have overcome their fear of heights, reaching the top of the climbing wall for the first time. Their resilience has been truly inspiring. We look forward to introducing new challenges throughout the year - well done to everyone involved!
Netball Club
Students are developing their netball skills, teamwork, and confidence on the court. New players are learning the rules and positions, while returning players are refining their techniques.
We're fortunate to have Nina, our fantastic external coach who also runs Flames Netball Club - where around 12 Bolder students are already members.
About Flames Netball Club: Founded in 2018, Flames has grown from three teams to 10 junior teams and two senior teams. The club was awarded England Netball's ONE Awards Club of the Year in 2022.
Join Flames: Spaces available for Under-12s and seniors. Bolder students receive a £100 discount – just £220 for the year, including weekly training and fortnightly matches. Sponsorship opportunities available for Pupil Premium- eligible students.
Greek Mythology Club
Students are thoroughly enjoying their journey through Stephen Fry's Mythos, exploring the dramatic world of Greek mythology. From Chaos and the first gods to Kronos overthrowing Uranus and swallowing his own children, there's been no shortage of excitement!
We've now reached the point where Zeus prepares to take on Kronos – we can't wait to find out what happens next!
Alongside their reading, students have produced fantastic artwork inspired by Chaos, showing wonderful imaginative interpretations of how it all began.
French Club: Fun, Films and a Little Je Ne Sais Quoi!
Students have been watching Astérix and Obélix, discovering cognates (words similar in French and English), and competing in fast-paced Blooket grammar and vocabulary quizzes.
Coming Soon: Students will practise real- life conversations - from ordering croissants in a French café to asking for their favourite drink. We'll also explore French music, famous artists, and other aspects of French culture.
French Club is all about having fun, trying something new, and growing in confidence with the language!
À bientôt! (See you soon!)
German Club
German Club has been getting creative! Students have been learning vocabulary for different places in a town – auf Deutsch! From die Schule (school) and der Park (park) to das Kino (cinema) and die Bäckerei (bakery), they've been expanding their German vocabulary.
Students then became town planners, creating colourful maps of their dream towns and labelling them using their newly acquired German vocabulary. It's been fantastic to see their creativity shine as they combined language learning with art and design.
German Club has proved that learning a new language can be both fun and imaginative!
Bis bald! (See you soon!)
