Psychology

Choose a subject:

Psychology: a high achieving department, where practitioners and students care about the subject, and where it can take them beyond A Levels.

The Aims of the Psychology Curriculum

  1. Create a culture of curiosity to enhance learning and opportunities for students beyond Sixth Form.
  2. To create a high achieving environment to ensure students are highly driven and motivated to succeed.
  3. Develop a learning environment to prioritise a safe space which facilitates high quality learning.
  4. Encouraging active participation in lessons to enhance engagement and enjoyment.
  5. Ensure that all Psychology is linked to the world around them.

How We Deliver Psychology

Bolder Academy follows the AQA A-level Course. Students will have 12 x 50-minute lessons per fortnight. This is split across 2 teachers.

Students are taught:

  • AO1: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures.
  • AO2: Apply knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures:
    • in a theoretical context
    • in a practical context
    • when handling qualitative data
    • when handling quantitative data.
  • AO3: Analyse, interpret and evaluate scientific information, ideas and evidence, including in relation to issues, to:
    • make judgements and reach conclusions
    • develop and refine practical design and procedures.

Our Intended Impact in Psychology

We will know if we have been successful when our students live and breathe our three core values within the Academy and beyond. When they demonstrate:

  • Kindness: Students will develop empathy, respect, and understanding of others, promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Strength: Students will build resilience and independence through critical thinking, evaluation, and analysis of psychology and the world around them.
  • Bravery: Students will confidently explore complex ideas, challenge assumptions, and engage in discussions.

Equally we want to prepare students effectively for the current and next stage in their learning, whether this be university study or the world of work.
