The aims of the Business Curriculum

The aims of the Business curriculum are to:

  • Develop students’ understanding of enterprise, entrepreneurship, and the dynamic nature of business in local, national and global contexts.
  • Build knowledge of how businesses operate across key functions — marketing, finance, operations, and human resources — and how these areas interconnect to influence decision-making.
  • Encourage students to think critically and commercially, applying their knowledge to real-life business scenarios, case studies, and contemporary issues.
  • Equip students with transferable skills such as problem-solving, communication, data analysis, and teamwork, preparing them for further study and future careers.

How we deliver Business

Bolder Academy follows the Edexcel specification at both GCSE and A Level.

Students are taught:

  • The role of entrepreneurs, business ownership, and start-ups.
  • Marketing and people: how businesses meet customer needs, recruit and motivate employees, and create competitive advantage.
  • Operations and finance: how businesses produce goods and services, manage resources, and measure performance.
  • The influence of external factors such as economic conditions, globalisation, ethics, and technology on business decision-making.
  • Strategic decision-making at A Level, including corporate objectives, global expansion, and managing risk and uncertainty.

Through strong connections with both local and internationally established businesses, Bolder aims to bring the business world into the classroom. The Business curriculum embeds real-life experiences with organisations such as Sky, where students engage directly with marketing, research, and product teams. These hands-on experiences bring the curriculum to life at A Level and help students see the practical applications of their learning.

Our teaching builds progressively across KS4 and KS5. At GCSE, students focus first on establishing and growing a business before moving on to larger, more complex organisations and global contexts. At A Level, students deepen their understanding through strategic and evaluative study, connecting all four business themes and applying knowledge to real-world case studies.

Our Intended Impact in Business

We will know if we have been successful when our students live and breathe our three core values within the Academy and beyond. When they demonstrate:

  • Kindness: By working collaboratively with peers, respecting different perspectives, and understanding the impact of business decisions on individuals and society.
  • Strength: By approaching challenging business concepts with resilience, applying quantitative skills, and making well-reasoned judgements.
  • Bravery: By engaging critically with contemporary business issues, showing creativity in problem-solving, and developing the confidence to think commercially and independently. This includes working directly with businesses such as Sky, where hands-on projects with marketing, research, and product teams encourage students to step beyond the classroom and apply their learning in real-world contexts.
