Year 10 Visit to the Old Vic Theatre to watch A Christmas Carol

On Thursday 28th November, our GCSE Drama Year 10 students enjoyed an inspiring visit to The Old Vic Theatre to see their celebrated production of A Christmas Carol. This annual staging has become widely known for its imaginative storytelling, atmospheric design, and heartfelt performances - perfect for supporting our students’ live theatre evaluation work.

From the moment we arrived, students were immersed in the festive spirit. The production’s inventive use of lighting, sound, and staging offered a wonderful example of how theatre can transform a classic text into a powerful and emotionally engaging experience. Students were particularly impressed by the creative transitions, the use of ensemble movement, and the reimagined portrayal of Scrooge’s journey.

The trip gave students the chance to reflect on professional theatre practice and gather valuable insights for their GCSE coursework. Their discussions afterwards- about characterisation, technical elements, and the emotional impact of the performance - showed just how much they had gained from the afternoon.

We’ve included some photographs from the visit, capturing the excitement of the day.

A big thank you to our Year 10 Drama cohort for representing Bolder Academy so brilliantly, and to families for your continued support. We look forward to many more theatrical adventures this year!
