Extra-Curricular Clubs
Calling all students - Getting involved in extra-curricular clubs - whether it’s sport, French Culture Club, Drama, or Computing - it is more than just fun; it’s an investment in your future!
Research shows that students who attend sports clubs are 42% more likely to be in employment or education by their early twenties, and those in hobby, arts or music clubs have a 56% higher chance of progressing to higher education. Engaging in these activities builds critical life skills like leadership, teamwork, time-management and resilience - skills highly valued by employers. As one student put it, “clubs give you a space to have fun, to unwind, and to build confidence outside your academic work.” With a wide range of sports and academic clubs on offer here, your child can explore their passions, make friends, and gain a real competitive edge. By boosting well- being, enhancing social networks and strengthening university or job applications, our extra-curricular programme doesn’t just enrich school life - it helps prepare students for life beyond school.
Sign-ups for the Spring Term clubs have now closed. If you are interested in singing your child up to one of our clubs on offer or would like more information regarding our clubs then please email Miss Grover - JGrover@bolderacademy.co.uk
AI Coding Club
Doctor Wilson is running an Artificial Intelligence Club (AI Club for short) after school on Tuesday (week B) and Thursday (week A). The students have been working with little Microbit devices that when strapped to the wrist can sense movements, and have been using Machine Learning to classify what the wearer is doing such as running, jumping, sitting or waving. The students have then used block coding to make the device show a simple image or make a noise depending on the movement. Doctor Wilson worked for many years with Artificial Intelligence before becoming a teacher in 2024, and he is currently planning the activities for the Spring and Summer AI Clubs.
This half term, students have been steadily building their stamina through interval training, timed laps, and finishing each session with fun relay activities. Because running can be repetitive by nature, we’ve added playful challenge such as last week’s egg and spoon races- which were a big hit and will definitely make a return. We recently completed our twilight run to Jersey Gardens on 9 December, and students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Running offers great benefits, helping students burn off excess energy while developing determination and strength. There is never any pressure to keep going if they become tired, but we encourage everyone to do their best. We look forward to many more enjoyable runs in the months ahead.
Girls Football
This Club continues to go from strength to strength. Our junior girls were unbeaten throughout last year, and this season both our junior and senior teams are proudly maintaining unbeaten runs. The club is fun, friendly, and welcoming to all, creating a supportive environment where every player can grow in skill and confidence. New members are always encouraged to join and be part of our success.
Year 7 Climbing
Climbing Club has had an exciting and adventurous start to the year. Students have taken on bouldering routes, learned how to tie essential climbing knots, and mastered putting on their harnesses safely and correctly all while bravely conquering their fears of heights. They’ve tackled speedy climbs, minimal-step challenges, and every activity with impressive enthusiasm, even with the early morning start. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence and teamwork grow each week.
Shakespeare Club
In Shakespeare Club, students modernise and rehearse a short Shakespeare play for performance in school, with successful pieces being shared before the February half term. The club offers an excellent training ground for anyone interested in developing their acting skills, and if you’re feeling confident, it could even lead to taking part in the whole-school production. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to play a leading role early in your Bolder career. The club is open to all year groups, and everyone is welcome to join.
Korean Club
The Korean Culture and Language Club is a unique educational and cultural program sponsored and organized by the Korean government. Participation in the Korean Club offers valuable academic and personal growth opportunities, including increased global awareness, strengthened cognitive skills, and better preparation for the future as Korea continues to be a global leader in technology, arts, and business.
For the upcoming spring semester, we are planning activities such as tasting Tteokguk, the traditional New Year’s dish; exploring Korean history and the relationship between North and South Korea; experiencing Korean birthday party customs; enjoying a Tteokbokki tasting; and a Korean travel experience.
