Year 11 Students Complete Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

On Friday 26th September 2025, 22 Year 11 pupils demonstrated true bravery by completing their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Qualifying Expedition.
Accompanied by Mr Furmage and Miss Nicholas, students set off from Newlands Corner in Surrey for a three-day, two- night adventure. Over the course of the expedition, they navigated approximately 14 hours of walking through rolling Surrey countryside, passing through farmlands and encountering local wildlife including horses, sheep, cows and alpacas.
Despite challenging weather conditions on Day Two, with rain greeting students as they woke, the group's teamwork and determination never wavered. Each evening, participants demonstrated excellent camp craft skills, setting up tents and cooking meals using traditional camp trangias.
By the final day, teams had mastered their navigation and communication skills, with all groups arriving at the final meeting point in Reigate by 3:30pm on Sunday. Following their final briefings with assessors Nick Bentley and Joe Cresswell from Peak Climbing School, all participants were delighted to hear they had successfully achieved their Silver Qualifying Expedition.
Congratulations to all 22 participants – you were a true inspiration in how you handled yourselves and the challenges you faced.
