A Powerful half Term of Social Action and Awareness
This half term, lessons and workshops have provided students with inspiring opportunities to engage with real-world issues, build confidence, and become more socially conscious citizens.
A major highlight was the First Give programme for Year 9 students, which culminated in an exciting final at the end of April. After weeks of research, teamwork, and preparation, student groups presented their social action projects to a panel of judges. The school was honoured to welcome Councillor Sue Sampson, Victoria Lindop (Deputy Director of First Give), and Mr. De Angelis as judges for the event.
All of the judges were highly impressed by the quality of the presentations, the depth of thought, and the passion shown by the students. The overall winners were 9K, whose outstanding project focused on the charity React. As a result, React received a £1,000 donation to support their vital work helping families who are caring for children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.
In addition to the First Give programme, Being Bold also delivered a powerful experience for Year 7 through the ‘Your Life, You Choose’ workshop. The session was designed to raise awareness about the consequences of crime and the wider impact it can have — not just on individuals, but on families, friends, and communities.
Year 7 students took part in sessions led by professionals from the Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service, covering key topics such as knife crime, joint enterprise, grooming, county lines, substance misuse, and vaping. The workshop encouraged open dialogue and helped students think critically about the choices they make and the influence they can have on those around them.
From developing public speaking and teamwork skills, to engaging with community issues and learning about personal safety, this half term’s programme has empowered students to be thoughtful, informed, and courageous in their actions.
Year 8 students have been exploring the art of ceramics, experimenting with different techniques to shape and create unique vessels. They’ve learned the fundamentals of hand-building, using methods like pinch pots, coil building, and slab construction to bring their ideas to life. Through this creative process, students have learnt both technical skills and personal creativity, helping students embrace the boldness of working with clay while adding colour to their designs with pottery glazes.
